Abstract
Ordered growth of a ZnO nanorod array on a pre-patterned ZnO seed layer was successfullyobtained. This patterned array of ZnO nanorods was introduced to the frontpanel of a plasma display panel (PDP), forming a hybrid PDP. The dischargevoltages of a hybrid panel versus a conventional one were measured, showingsignificantly lower firing and sustaining discharge voltages. The reduction of dischargevoltage was attributed to an enhanced effective secondary electron emission yield(γeff) by the presence ofZnO nanorods. The γeff of a hybrid panel was found to be higher due to the field-assisted electron emissionunder a PDP electrical field. The luminance and luminance efficiency of a hybridPDP were also characterized and compared with those of a conventional panel.
