Abstract

One-dimensional quantum magnet Cs 2CoCl 4 behaves like a quantum XY spin-chain at temperatures above 0.3 K. It is a magnetically disordered system as evident from earlier theoretical and experimental investigations. Recently, an order to disorder transition has been observed in this sample at temperatures below 0.3 K. An anomaly observed in the earlier experiments below this temperature, were expected due to magnetic order–disorder transition which is now confirmed and explained by two-dimensional Ising model with a very small inter-chain coupling.
