Abstract

A novel higher-order active FM modelocking technique capable of multiplying the pulse repetition rate of a fibre ring laser is demonstrated by applying a strong phase modulation and using an intracavity Fabry-Perot filter with a free spectral range which is a harmonic of the modulation frequency. Generation of equal amplitude and evenly spaced pulses with 10- and 15-fold multiplication in repetition rate is demonstrated.
