Abstract

In this paper we examine predictors of marital patterns using longitudinal data from the high school class of 1972. We take into account the respondent's economic activity and fertility experi- ence, as well as background characteristics. We conclude that role changes in early adulthood are interrelated: disorder in the economic spherc has -an effect on disorder in the family sphere for women, and for both men and women, having a child prior to marriage is closely linked to a disrupted marital pattern.
