Abstract

The aim of this paper is to propose a definition of Community Tourism Planning based on a review of the Latin American publications on “territorial planning” and “community tourism” of the last two decades. The analysis consisted of coding with ATLAS.ti for a geographical classification of each of the approaches to community and tourism. The interpretation consists of a double exercise, firstly a mechanism is established to discriminate the documents according to their postulates and secondly a theoretical reflection on the studies. The findings show a discursive displacement from the economic view of tourism that characterized the beginning of the 21st century to a new environmental and cultural perspective with greater geographical diversity. As a final result, the OTC is defined based on five criteria: economic development, citizen participation, territorial planning, environmental conservation and cultural heritage.
