Abstract

A general expression for the entropy production in 3He-A is derived from the structure of the order parameter, thermodynamics, and the conservation laws. From this the nonlinear equation of motion of the orbital axis l is derived. A particular solitary wave solution of this equation is a stationary domain wall in which the direction of l precesses continuously, driven by a steady counterflow. Such a domain wall provides a plausible explanation of the persistent orbital motions discovered by Paulson, Krusius and Wheatley (Phys. Rev. Lett., vol.37, p.599 (1976)).
