Abstract

Non-Hodgkin-type orbital lymphomas are extremely rare. Proptosis, edema, decreased visual acuity, and ocular motility are signs and symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) assist in the diagnosis, confirmed by biopsy and anatomopathologic exam. Treatment includes radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or their association. The aim of this work was to report a case of an orbital lymphoma. A 67-year-old male patient reported left ocular proptosis, dystopia, visual impairment, and ocular motility for 3 weeks, after local trauma. Retrobulbar hematoma was ruled out after CT evaluation. In discussion with the ophthalmologist, MRI showed a solid mass in the left superior-lateral orbital region. Incisional biopsy was performed under general anesthesia by head and neck surgery and maxillofacial surgery teams. The diagnosis was orbital lymphoma of the extranodal marginal zone. The treatment proposed was chemotherapy, still in progress, and the patient showed improvement in visual signs and symptoms. Non-Hodgkin-type orbital lymphomas are extremely rare.
