Abstract

From the viewpoint of coupled-mode theory, the generation and conversion of orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams accompany the mode couplings in the chiral fiber gratings. According to the phase- and angular-matching conditions of mode couplings, OAM generators are designed with the chiral fiber gratings based on a commercially available eccentric elliptic-core fiber. Meanwhile, based on the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, an experimental platform is built for the generation and detection of OAM beams. Finally, the +1st and +2nd order OAM beams are observed successfully, which verifies the coupled-mode analysis.
