ORAL MANIFESTATIONS OF DYSTROPHIC EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of mechano-bullous genetic diseases, characterized by the appearance of blisters or vesicles in the face with minimal trauma to the skin or mucous membranes, especially in the oral mucosa. Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is the most serious condition of the disease. This case refers to a male patient with a previous diagnosis of dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa who presented to a specialized university dentistry service. During clinical oral examination, black spots were observed on the surfaces of the upper and lower teeth, in addition to swollen gums with bleeding when stimulated, poor oral hygiene, and supragingival calculus. The patient had several blisters and scars characteristic of the disease. Initially it was not possible to perform oral procedures because the limitation of the patient's mouth opening caused by the disease. Guidance on a less cariogenic diet and oral hygiene techniques was provided.
