Abstract

Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae that affects the skin and peripheral nerves and, less commonly, the oral mucosa. Black woman, 42, was referred for evaluation of oral burning. She presented partial madarosis of the eyebrows as well as nodular and hypochromic lesions on the face, trunk, and lower limbs. Intraoral examination revealed an irregular nodular lesion on the hard palate and a red area associated with white papules. The clinical hypothesis was leprosy; an incisional biopsy of the oral lesion was performed.
