Abstract

An important aspect of the oral involvement in bullous pemphigoid is the presence of a desquamative gingivitis. The histopathology of oral lesions in bullous pemphigoid is similar to that of the skin lesions. Oral biopsy is suggested as a simple diagnostic test. Bullous pemphigoid and mucous membrane pemphigoid are suggested as variants of a single entity.
