Abstract
Lesson XV from Jacques Lacan’s eighth series of seminars advances his discussion of the psychoanalytic concept of transference by honing in on what Sigmund Freud in his formative work Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905) called the ‘developmental phases of sexual organization (Entwicklungsphasen der sexuellen Organisation)’ (Freud 1905, p. 54). In my reading, I review Lacan’s challenges to the function the so-termed ‘naturalist view’ on these phases in order to tease out some of these challenges’ modern, technical implications.
