Abstract

Abstract The neglect of cultural activities in South Africa by many drama scholars is my main reason for entering the debate on the subject, oral African drama forms. This article seeks to define what African drama is by discussing its origin in precolonial Africa, particularly in South Africa, examining hunting, circumcision ceremonies and oral narratives as forms of oral African drama and discussing the functions of oral African drama.
