Abstract

Optogalvanic spectrum of argon has been investigated in the visible wavelength region 4150–6700 Å hollow cathode discharge with an excimer pumped dye laser. About 180 transitions have been recorded and a majority of them have been identified using the Jl-coupling scheme. The optogalvanic spectrum in the regions 4300–5300 and 6010–6700 Å is being reported in detail for the first time. The optogalvanic signal intensities are found to agree with atomic transition probabilities. A technique has been discussed to record a maximum number of transitions in optogalvanic effect.
