Abstract

Single crystals of CdS were prepared in an excess pressure of either sulphur or cadmium vapour. Attempts were made to incorporate copper during the growth. Trapping parameters, photoconductivity response, infrared quenching, and photochemical effects in these crystals were studied. It is suggested that the cation vacancies and the incorporated copper play important parts in determining these properties. Significant changes in the above properties were observed when the copper concentration in the crystal was 10 to 20 ppm.
