Abstract

After 2 decades of neonatal surgery, endoscopic procedures in this age group are predominantly being performed by 3–3.5-mm instruments. With the neonatal abdominal wall being more elastic and thin compared to adults, improvements in port designs have been addressed to enable their secure placement and avoid dislocation during the procedures. Based on a Google search, variations of commercially available ports designs were identified that were available in 3–3.5-mm work port category. In the 3-mm size category, there were 3 design variations: (a) straight sleeve port, (b) threaded port, and (c) graduated fascial fixation with retention ring. In the 3.5-mm size, two additional design variations: (a) self-retaining port and (b) distal screw anchor port are available. This is the first report to identify 5 designs of 3–3.5-mm port options available for neonatal endoscopic procedures.
