Abstract
The impetus for the Older Women's Shared Housing Project arose from a number of issues identified in the consultation with Victorian women on their housing issues (Barclay et al 1991). These issues included: 1) the need to increase the range of viable housing options open to women; 2) the particular needs of older women, particularly thoseliving alone and on low to middle incomes; and 3) the interest shown and the concerns expressed by women with respect to shared housing as a relevant but under utilized option for women.
