Abstract

This paper studies the optimum position of the nodes in discontinuous linear boundary elements, to obtain the most accurate results. Previous work on discontinuous elements has demonstrated their advantages in representing edges and corners and modelling discontinuous loads. Past researchers however did not investigate the best position for the nodes but simply put them in such a manner that for elements of equal size the nodes were equidistant of each other.
