Abstract

Numerous models have already been worked out to achieve an optimum design of a pressurized water conveyance system. These models have mostly been made for the analysis and the design of a water distribution network in which layout of the system is more or less fixed. In the design of a water supply line, however, layout of the line could also be optimized as well as other characteristics of the system. In this paper, application of an optimization procedure on the layout and design of a water supply line is presented. An algorithm was worked out for the optimum layout and design of a water supply line using linear programming as optimization tool in the search for the optimum route among the possible paths. Mixed integer programming was employed for the optimization of the design of the system. A computer model was developed based on the scheme by which several examples were solved. The results of the model for one of the cases are presented.
