Abstract

A theory of the pulse forming circuits for nuclear pulse amplifiers is developed and the optimum filters are described both for pulse height and pulse time (coincidence) measurements. The measured mean error of pulse height measurements carried out by means of the filters described is considerably less than the effective noise voltage. Corresponding results were obtained with the timing filters. The filters are described by means of the amplifier output pulse shape and noise power frequency spectrum and they are easily constructed in practice. In general 10% accuracy in their components is sufficient and they are very insensitive to deviations from the pulse shape and noise power frequency spectrum they were originally designed for.
