Abstract

Equations which give the minimum column length and the optimum inclination angle for enriching heavy water in thermal diffusion columns arranged in the Frazier scheme are derived. Considerable savings in fixed and operating charges result if columns are placed at the optimum angle instead of being placed vertically. The savings are particularly significant for lower production rate operations or cases in which a significant number of columns are used.
