Abstract

This paper presents synthesis of rigid and flexible linkages for the purpose of path generation. Optimization technique with DE algorithm is used to minimize the error. Cam-follower mechanism is considered for the synthesis of rigid linkages. Profile of plate cam with offset follower is designed considering no deformation of cam surface. In course of this design fundamental principle of cam motion function is modified and suitable CMF is introduced. An experimental analysis is conducted to verify the theoretical predictions. For flexible linkages, 4-bar with joint clearances and 4-bar linkage with deformation are considered for path generation. In course of analysis the sensitivity to joint clearances are considered.
