Abstract

1. Uniform and rapid cooling over the whole temperature range provides high hardness to a sufficient depth, with minimum scrap due to cracking and buckling. 2. In order to obtain uniform and rapid cooling during oil quenching, it is desirable to use a hydrodynamic emitter of the vortex type with a conical outlet nozzle. In this way oil cooling capacity approaches that of water with a specific acoustic power of 0.1 W/cm3 and an oil consumption of 45 liters/min.
