Abstract

This paper deals with the optimization of isotropic rotors which are equally stressed in radial and tangential directions, the merit criteria being maximum inertia per unit mass, coupled with most uniform stress distribution, these features being in turn grouped in the so-called “shape factor.” The present study sets forth a new profile for the isotropic unimaterial rotor with a shape factor value more than 0.971 in contradistinction to the practical value of 0.88 as obtained for a constant-strength disk.
