Abstract

Molding process simulation with optimization methodology is utilized to improve the stability and accuracy of the reference plane at micron level precision in a plastic optical housing for a CD optical pickup. The optimization methodology for mechanical design, e.g., rib design, injection location, etc. and process conditioning is constructed with the use of the complex method to minimize the warpage of the injection-molded part. Molding process simulation is used to analyze the distortion of the legs and reference pads in the optical housing with various change-options such as rib thickness, gate location and process conditions.
