Abstract

Abstract: A simple natural gas mixture (methane and ethane) when mixed with water to form natural gas hydrates can exhibit complex phase equilibria. In this case, two structure I hydrate formers when combined form a structure II hydrate under certain conditions. Optimized Kihara parameters were derived from experimental data using the statistical thermodynamics model based on the van der Waals and Platteeuw theory and using the Kihara spherical core potential for the guest‐water interactions. The parameters were based upon both pure component data and the structural transition point, with the intent of better predictions over the remainder of the phase diagram.
