Abstract

Abstract. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is essential for nursing professionals to acquire, maintain and improve the knowledge and skills required to provide person-centered care that is safe and effective. CPD aims to improve nurses' competence, safety, and professionalism. One of the factors that influence nurses to continuously improve their competence is the influence of nurse managers. Lack of manager leadership can result in low nurse involvement in the CPD program so that opportunities for competency improvement are reduced. PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital has a number of nurse managers who have the competence as clinical nurse assessors. One of the nurse manager's duties is to conduct performance appraisals to nursing staff under their responsibility. This performance assessment is intended as a form of monitoring and evaluation of nurses' competence in doing their work and in maintaining or even improving their nursing care delivery skills. Based on preliminary studies that have been conducted, 2 main problems were found, firstly, the guidelines for competency assessment by nurse managers have not yet existed, and secondly, the ability of nurse managers to conduct competency assessments is not equal. These two things urgently require attention from hospital management so that the assessments carried out can be objective, and the results can really map the competence of nurses based on actual skills. Community service activities to help solve partner problems were carried out in 3 stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation followed by reporting. As a result, the nurse manager's knowledge improves, as evidenced by the pretest and posttest results, which also show an increase. It is hoped that this activity will continue to be carried out with the development of activities in order to improve the quality of nurses.
