Abstract

This research presents a heuristic approach to power system stabilizer (PSS) design for improving power system stability in multi-machine systems. The proposed approach is based on a multi-objective optimization algorithm, the Genetic Algorithm, which optimizes the PSS parameters to improve both damping of oscillations and steady-state performance of the system. The approach is tested on a four-machine power system and compared with conventional PSS design methods. The results show that the proposed approach is effective in improving system stability, reducing oscillation amplitudes, and maintaining acceptable power system performance under varying operating conditions. The heuristic approach presented in this research provides a promising alternative for PSS design in multi-machine power systems, offering improved stability and performance over traditional design methods.
