Abstract

We describe a simple, accurate, and fast approach to obtaining high-quality 2-D multiscale symmetry axis transform (SAT) skeletons based on the exact Euclidean distance. The method involves labeling the contour pixels of the shape and propagating such labels only around the neighborhood of already obtained skeleton segments. Since only small neighborhoods are processed, the algorithm efficiency becomes maximized.
