Abstract

As the environmental pollution caused by traditional fuel cars is becoming increasingly serious, electric vehicles (EVs) driven by green energy have become a new trend, and there is a growing demand for the energy source. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the most widely used type, have become the ideal power source for practical EVs. However, although the superiorities of LIBs make them stand out in a crowd of EVs, several shortcomings still have not been solved, which hinder the further development of EVs to a certain extent. Firstly, this paper will briefly analyze the two most commonly used LIBs in EV at present- lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium batteries. Secondly, the superiorities of the two types of batteries in performance, cost and fabrication will be pointed out separately. Considering the batteries' shortcomings and according to relevant professional literature, there will be detailed optimization strategies for electrodes and electrolytes as well as a description of recent advances in LIBs for EVs.
