Abstract

The selective laser sintering (SLS) technique has been widely used in the investment casting process to produce the wax pattern with complex structures. However, the sintered wax pattern is also accompanied by some defects, such as deformation and warpage, which affect the dimensional accuracy of the parts. The deformation rule of complex parts during the SLS process remains to be studied. In this study, the deformation rule of circular bosses of a compressor casing wax pattern is investigated. In order to improve the dimensional accuracy of the circular bosses, different support structures are designed. Based on the simulation of the SLS process, the process is optimized by the analyzing the deformation of the circular bosses with different support structures. The reliability of the simulation is verified by the experimental data. The effect of the diameter and support angle of the support structure on the distortion are numerically analyzed. The deformation rule of the circular bosses are proposed and the optimized process is obtained.
