Abstract

Background: When a breast tumor is not visible on ultrasound, wire-guided-localization (WGL) is the preferred method for wide local excision (WLE). WGL with a single wire can be enhanced by three dimensional tumor demarcation using multiple wires and wire lengths, which is called bracketing wire-guided localization (BWL). The primary aim of this study is to evaluate whether BWL leads to more optimal resection volumes without compromising margins status compared to normal WGL. Secondly, this study investigated BWL as alternative method for intra-operative ultrasound (US) guidance in poorly definable breast tumors on ultrasound.
