Abstract

This paper focuses on the investigation of effect of process parameters on the responses such as MRR and surface roughness of Ti50Ni40Cu10 SMA machined by WEDM using the Taguchi techniques to obtain optimum machining process parameters. A number of experiments were conducted using the L18 orthogonal array on an Electronica WEDM. A combined technique using orthogonal array and analysis of variance was employed to investigate the contribution and effects of peak current, pulse on time, pulse off time and wire feed on the MRR and surface roughness. The results showed that peak current, pulse on time and servo voltage is the major significant effect on the MRR and surface roughness. Thereafter, optimal machining parameters were obtained by the analysis of mean.
