Abstract

The quadruply charged U4+ ion component of the uranium ion beam produced by the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics MEVVA ion source has been investigated and increased. An independent, additional power supply has been connected to the trigger electrode, by means of which the U4+ current was increased up to 30%–40% of the total beam current at the injector output. The charge state distribution was measured by time-of-flight and magnetic analysis methods. An accelerated U4+ ion beam with a mean pulse current up to 50 mA in the bunch has been obtained at the TIPr-1 linac.
