Abstract

Optimization of the transmission characteristics of single mode optical fibres based on a new modification of synthesis method is considered. According to this method the profile of the refractive index in cross-section of a fiber is determined under given transmission characteristics. Influence of phase and group velocities of the propagating mode on transmission characteristics of fibers is investigated. It is shown, that values of phase and group velocities of propagating mode, given on a fixed-frequency completely determine the refractive index, and, therefore, the dispersion of fiber. Singlemode fibers with nonzero displaced dispersion in range 1,530-1,625 mum, increased singlemode frequency band and increased effective cross-section area are obtained. These fibers can be applied for large information capacity transmission systems
