Abstract

A variational technique of obtaining the optimal shape of a low-aspect-ratio wing with allowance for the nonequilibrium character of the flow is developed. The technique is applied to the problem of determining optimal wing shapes under terrestrial atmosphere conditions. The real-gas effect on the optimal shapes and maximum lift-drag ratio is studied.
