Abstract
In connection with good prospects for the use of viburnum oil in medical practice, methods for the determination of α-tocopherol and total carotenoid content in this preparation have been developed and the optimum analytical conditions have been established. The total content of carotenoids is determined spectrophotometrically, with the optical density of sample solutions being a linear function of the concentration in the range from 1 to 6 µg/ml. The content of carotenoids in viburnum oil varies from 60 to 200 mg%. The content of α-tocopherol is determined by HPLC after preliminary saponification. The content of α-tocopherol in the oil varies within 150–310 mg%.
