Abstract

A number of proposals have been written for a 35 MeV deuteron linear accelerator with a continuous output current in excess of 100 mA. A discussion is given of those factors influencing the choice of injection energy, operating frequency, initial electric field gradient, and quadrupole magnetic field gradient for the machine. Matched input beam parameters under space charge forces are calculated as a function of beam current and radial and longitudinal emittance.
