Abstract

Using a general optimization method together with the Rayleigh theory extended to the X-ray region, X-ray grating profiles that best meet given requirements can be calculated. Various examples are given: maximization of the efficiency at a given wavelength as well as over a broad wavelength interval, minimization of the contamination by higher orders. Compared to classical profiles, Fourier profiles show very good features.
