Abstract

The purpose of this work is to optimize the treatment conditions of rubber aggregates using a full factorial design. NaOH concentration and treatment duration and devulcanization were used as factors, while the compressive strength of the concretes was the response to the factorial design. The results indicated that NaOH concentration and treatment duration, as well as the interaction between NaOH treatment duration and devulcanization, have a significant influence on the compressive strength of rubberized concrete. 10% NaOH concentration, 60 min NaOH treatment duration and 30 s devulcanization were optimal treatment conditions. Under these optimal treatment conditions, an increase in compressive strength of 12.11% is observed compared with concretes incorporating untreated rubber aggregates.
