Abstract
Optimization of grinding cycles means to consider and to control at least two characteristic quantities related to each other. Characteristics quantities might be for instance surface roughness and metal removal rate. Short grinding cycles last for instance 5… 30 s and result, if the grinding allowance is small. Usually you don't dress within such a cycle. The report essentially describes cycles occuring multistage with rough and finish grinding and being controlled uniaxially for instance by the infeed rate as a variable. Most important are for orthogonal grinding processes, strategies, relevant constraints and fundamental knowledge about the processes and their temporal changes as well as the interrelation between important characteristic quantities are premises for optimization.
