Abstract

This paper focuses on optimization of process parameters for plasma sprayed Fly ash - Titania composite coating using design of experiments. Standoff distance, feed rate and current density were considered as process variables to be optimized and bond strength, porosity and hardness were investigated as response characteristics. Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array was used for design of experiments. Analysis of variance was carried out to identify significant process parameters. The most important parameter for bond strength was current density; with 41% followed by standoff distance and powder feed rate. For porosity; current density; with 54% followed by standoff distance and powder feed rate and for hardness, powder feed rate; with 35% followed by standoff distance and current density.Verification experiments confirm the performance of optimum process parameters.
