Abstract

Orthotropic piezoelectric fiber composite is used as a functional material for new phased array transducer, which can be applied in a wide range of fields such as natural gas, power industry, aerospace and other nondestructive evaluation fields. The backing layer of the transducer affects the pulse width and axial resolution directly. In order to find transducers with good sensitivity and short pulses, the pulse shape and frequency response for orthotropic piezoelectric fiber composite elements have been studied both theoretically and experimentally. The acoustic impedance of velocity testing criterion has been provided, and the relative theory and experiment have also been researched. The results show that orthotropic piezoelectric fiber composite has lower acoustic impedance and higher mechanical coupling factor. Also, the sensitivity and bandwidth of orthotropic piezoelectric fiber composite ultrasonic actuator have been improved.
