Abstract
In this study, machining of the titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) of grade 5 has been carried out by using carbide insert K313 to study the effect of the cutting factors (feed, cutting speed and depth of cut) on surface roughness, tool wear and chip reduction coefficient. Desirability function analysis (DFA) analyses performance index of the output responses by obtaining the composite desirability value. This value was analyzed with the Taguchi method to find out the optimum machining parameters for the desired values of the responses. The influence and contribution of the individual parameter is determined through analysis of variance (ANOVA) and mean response of the composite average desirability value. Confirmation test had also been carried out to validate the results. The test results revealed that the machining characteristics have been enhanced through this desirability function approach
