Abstract

In order to study the influence of section size of large span variable section portal frame on steel quantity. Based on an engineering example, the finite element model of a portal frame is established using finite element analysis software ANSYS. Through the mechanical analysis of the whole structure, the maximum stress and maximum deflection of the structure are analyzed. Finally, the goal of optimization is to minimize steel consumption by taking the tapered sections of beam and column as design variables and the maximum stress and deflection of the structure as state variables. Optimized results show that steel consumption over the original structure is significantly reduced and makes the design more rational. It is very effective for the optimization design of large-span portal frame structures with tapered sections based on ANSYS.
