Abstract

Problems and techniques related to the difficulties of analyzing and synthesizing optimal controls for large scale systems are discussed. The intuitive ideas of decomposition and aggregation are described in mathematical terms along with various optimum structures, multistage optimization, interacting, hierarchic, time varying and adaptive systems. Also discussed are possible applications to electric power and water supply distribution systems, as well as economic and industrial processes.
