Abstract

In the present work, the extrusion force was studied by considering the influence of process parameters for the cold forward extrusion process. Die angle, coefficient of friction, extrusion ratio were considered as the input parameters. The dies were made with different die angles (30°, 45° and 60°) with varying extrusion ratios (1.2, 1.5 and 1.8). The experiments were planned based on Design of Experiments and then simulations were performed with DEFORM-3D software. The simulated results were compared with the analytical method and it was found that they are in good agreement with each other. ANOVA method was used for analysing the influence of process parameters in the extrusion process. The minimum extrusion force is obtained at 30° die angle with an extrusion ratio of 1.2.
