Abstract

The conventional method of controlling the illumination in offices, schools or domestic environments is done manually by switching ON/OFF the lights as per the need. However as a part of building automation, the lighting management system can be made intelligent by constantly monitoring the environment and controlling the lighting accordingly. This paper aims to achieve automatic control of lighting management by developing a wireless sensor network for monitoring the data related to various parameters of the environment such as light intensity, motion detection, temperature and time of the day. The data is sent to the data management software via the coordinator widely from various modes. The data management software analyses the data and sends the information to the lighting system controller, regarding the lighting units which need to be switched ON/OFF. The lighting controls accordingly configure the network of electromechanical switches to achieve the required lighting conditions. This will make the lighting system energy efficient and environment friendly, Also, eliminating the need for human intervention and lead to saving in electricity consumed by optimum usage.
