Abstract

The yield of cold neutrons from the cold moderator in the IBR-2M reactor is calculated for several hydrogenous materials at cryogenic temperature. The intramolecular bonds during the interaction with <10 MeV neutrons are taken into account in the cross-section libraries for these materials. The moderator thickness optimizing the cold-neutron yield is analyzed. It is shown that taking account of the radiation effects the aromatic hydrocarbons (mixture of mesitylene and m-xylene) is the best material for use in IBR-2M cold moderators. The computational results for optimizing the complex IBR-2M moderators are presented.
