Abstract

We propose a method for the optimization of gear shift operations in automatic transmissions. Based on the mechanical model of powertrain the control parameters for the clutch pressure as well as those for the load-reduction are optimized in order to improve the performance of the automatic transmission with respect to passengers comfort and gear shift duration. Scalar criteria, which are capable of describing these effects are formulated. The nonlinear optimization problem is solved with a sequential quadratic programming algorithm. The results show a significant improvement an terms of the optimization criteria.
